Wedding Highlight // Anna + Jake

As we are ramping up to wedding season I wanted to finally take a moment on here and reflect on one of our favorite designs from the past few years. Anna and Jake came to me with a very specific vision for their wedding day at The Prospect Park Boathouse in Brooklyn and their enthusiasm for it was infectious. Both designers in their own right each were adding their own personal touches of the day and it was up to me to tie it all together through their flowers. It was a joint effort and I was so thankful that this beautiful couple put their trust in me to come up with these tablescapes for them. To say this challenge was the most fun I’ve had would be an understatement. I took a lot of inspiration from Dutch Master paintings and came to them with ideas for different objects and props for each table most of which were sourced from an antique store at the Jersey shore. Hourglasses, antlers, radishes, lemons, cracked pomegranates and cloches! Metallic gold vases filled with some of the most beautiful roses, tulips, ranunculus and anthurium (to name a few)! The red velvet runners were made by the mother of the bride who also provided a few of the props we used!

All the paper from the invitations to the table “numbers” to the seating chart were designed by the groom. The couple’s use of symbols and colors added such a cool personal touch to the whole design!

We flanked the ceremony space which so happens to be right on the dock of the lake with urns full of burning bush. It is one of my favorite types of foliage to work with in the fall!

The wooden staircase was draped in smilax with some red roses mixed in.

Anna was one of my first brides to request a cascading bouquet! I was able to put some knowledge from Flower School NY to the test and was so happy how this came out. These bouquets are very labor intensive as we wire almost all the flowers to create this waterfall look.

And when the sun went down and the candles were lit the room was on fire!

And OH THE CAKE! All of these roses were grown in the USA on Grace Rose Farm!
